Norton qualifies for U.S. Senior Amateur
Tom Norton won a three-way playoff to take the lone qualifying spot at the U.S. Senior Amateur qualifier
Tom Norton of Muscatine defeated Jim Curell of Boone and Robb Pomerantz of Des Moines in a playoff to take the lone qualifying spot into the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship on Tuesday. The three tied for the low round with 75 over the difficult Wakonda Club in Des Moines.
Norton defeated Curell with a par on the third playoff hole, which was the par-3 17th. The playoff participants started on #10 and then played #11 before heading over to the 17th. Pomerantz was ousted when he made a bogey on the first playoff hole (#10).
Norton will now move on to Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey. Stroke play rounds will be held September 29th & 30th with the top 64 qualifying for match play.
