Bob Leahy

In the history of golf in Iowa only three men; Joe Brown, Tom Chapman Jr., and Mike McCoy have won more major tournaments than Bob Leahy of Cedar Falls.  Leahy won 11 major tournaments over a 24 year span, starting with the Iowa Masters in 1953.  He won the first of his three Iowa Amateur titles in 1954 at Davenport Country Club.  He also won in 1956 at Hyperion Field Club and in 1957 at the Mason City Country Club.  All three victories came in match play format.  Leahy also won a second Iowa Masters title in 1957, the Herman Sani Invitational in 1966, the Tournament of Champions in 1959, 1961, and 1971 as well as the Northwest Amateur in 1958 and 1977.

  • 3 time Iowa Amateur Champion – 1954, ’56, ‘57

  • 2 time Iowa Masters Champion – 1953, ‘57

  • Herman Sani Champion – 1966
