Warren Dickinson

Warren Dickinson had a profound effect on Iowa golf.  Warren was solid amateur player, his resume included: being a finalist in the first 6 state amateurs that he played in, winning two State Amateur titles, a Trans- Mississippi title, as well as many others but besides his playing career Warren provided much more to the game of golf.  Warren helped organize the Iowa Golf Association and served as its second President and was also Iowa’s only USGA President.  Besides being part of Iowa golf as a player and an administrator, Warren designed and built golf courses throughout the state.  Dickinson laid out over 100 courses, 4 of which are still in use, Brooks Golf Course in Okoboji, Grandview and Woodland Hills in Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids.

Career Highlights

  • 2 time Iowa State Amateur Champion – 1902-03

  • Trans-Mississippi Champion

  • Helped organize the Iowa Golf Association

  • Only Iowan to ever serve on the USGA Executive Committee (1907)
