Stjernberg, 72, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009.
A visitation
will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27 at the
Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road with a service
following.
Lloyd was born
in Chicago on July 19, 1937 to Armand and Mildred (Rohrbach)
Stjernberg. He attended Northern Illinois University
(Bachelors), Kansas State University (Masters) and Northwestern
University (Doctorate). Lloyd was a Professor in the School of
Education at Drake University from 1972 until his retirement in
2001. He was Drake's Undergraduate Teacher of the Year in 1984
and was Assistant Dean during his tenure. Lloyd had a deep
connection with the Drake Relays, serving as chief timer. He was
inducted into the Relays Hall of Fame in 2008. He was a
long-time Member of Hyperion Field Club, serving two terms as
President and on various committees. In addition he led the
volunteer support for the annual Herman Sani Golf Tournament for
many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years,
Catherine. His children Ruth (Jeff) Ott, Erik (Sandy) Stjernberg
and John Stjernberg and grandchildren Andrew, Abigail, Caroline,
Austin and Rehn. His sister Lois (Don) Hartung of Arlington
Heights, IL also survives.
In lieu of
flowers, donations on Lloyd's behalf may be made to the Golf
Foundation of Iowa/Herman Sani Scholarship Fund or the Animal
Rescue League of Iowa.
