2018 Yearbook

22 Iowa Mid-Amateur Burlington GC, Burlington May 11-12 J.D. Anderson, of Johnston, caught fire early at Burlington Golf Club in the opening round of the 33rd Iowa Mid-Amateur. Anderson, the 2017 IGA Player of the Year, birdied his first four holes and was five under par through six holes to start the championship. Anderson, who posted 68 (-4), made a total of eight birdies to set the pace. Unfortunately, the final round of the event was cancelled due to heavy rains that rolled into town just as the final groups were finishing their opening hole. Anderson was declared the winner when the announcement was made to cancel the final round. Norwalk’s Brian Allison posted a fine opening round score of his own, 70 (-2) and would finish runner-up to Anderson. Allison’s opening round included four birdies against juts two bogeys. Nick Eilertson, of Cedar Falls, finished three strokes back of the lead with a 71 (-1) and would finish third overall. Bill Matzdorf (72), Mike Mc- Coy (73) and Jordan Dye (73) would round out the top five in the Mid-Amateur Division. Anderson, who dropped three shots just prior to making the turn on the opening day before rebounding nicely to make three birdies coming home on the inward half was more than pleased to start his year with a victory. “I said to myself (prior to the opening round) that this is how I wanted to start the year,” Anderson said. “You can’t get above the hole here. This course can be penal if you go in the wrong spot. I was lucky to play a prac- tice round and figure some of that out.” Terry Cook won a four-way playoff for the Senior Division title. Cook made a par on the second playoff hole to earn the victory over John O’Neill, Jay Goeser and Bret Taylor who all posted 73 (+1) in the first round. Dan Dalziel, who posted 69 (-3) to lead the Super Senior Division (65 year and older) by six shots over Jim Campbell after the opening round, was declared winner in that division. Hole in One – Father Marty Goetz, a member at BGC, made an ace on the 17th hole during the first round. Anderson makes it two in a row at Mid-Am Dusty Drenth Rob Christensen
