2018 Yearbook

9 going into effect. The IGA staff will be hosting sev- eral 2019 rules seminars early in spring to educate us. Please sign up as they are now posted on the IGA website. The IGA held its 2018 Player of the Year and An- nual Awards dinner at Echo Valley CC in Decem- ber. “Echo” has been a great friend to the IGA for a lot of years. It was a special evening with many worthy people and facilities honored. Please con- tinue to appreciate your PGA professionals, Golf Course Superintendents, and Club Managers. We cannot thank them enough! I, and the IGA would like to recognize two retiring board members whose terms have ended in 2018. Ron Koontz from Council Bluffs (Bent Tree Golf Club) has retired and moved to Arizona. Ron was a USGA rules official for our champion- ships and served on our Rules & Competitions Committee. Gene Elliott, from West Des Moines (Glen Oaks CC), just completed five terms as an IGA board member. He headed the Hall of Fame Committee and was a valuable member of the Rules and Competition Committee. Thank you, Ron and Gene, for your service to the IGA. With Ron & Gene’s departure, we welcomed two new board members recently, Hall of Famer Jon Brown from Adel and Cary Cochran from Neola. We look for- ward to their input to the IGA. Lastly, it is with a heavy heart that we remember three notable people from our Iowa golf family. This past year we lost Celia Barquin Arozamena from Iowa State University, Phil Joselyn from Fort Dodge and Iowa Golf Hall of Fame member Lou King. Phil made friends around Iowa golf for de- cades as a competitor, USGA Committee member, and past IGA President. We lost Celia this last August. She was the 2018 European Women’s Ama- teur Champion, 2018 Women’s Big 12 Champion and also First Team Global Golf Post Women’s All American. God Bless Celia and Phil! King was best known for starting the Amana VIP Tournament and serving as the Executive Director of the PGA of America. Our hearts and prayers continue to go out to their families and friends! Thanks again to all of you for being part of Iowa golf! Whether a casual player, competitor, contribu- tor or volunteer, we all share a common passion for this great game. It has been an honor to be part of the IGA and I look forward to seeing you all in 2019!
