24 | IOWA JUNIOR AMATEUR N ick Pittman of Urbandale got off to a hot start in the opening round at Indianola Country Club, posting a bogey-free 65, with birdies on three of his last five holes. He shot 73 on day two in order to win the Iowa Junior Amateur Championship by two strokes. Close behind Pittman was Clive’s Jake Calhoun, and Matt Gardside, of Bettendorf. After a two-over par 73 on day one, Calhoun made a charge on day two, carding five birdies and posting a four-under par round of 67. Garside showed strong consistency, posting a 1-under par 70 both days. Pittman said his ball striking gave him many scoring opportunities during the week. “I had a game plan coming into this tournament and I feel like I followed that well both days,” Pittman said. "The first day everything was clicking really well. I was hitting the ball really well and my distance control was the best of anything. I gave myself so many birdie looks. Since I had the lead I did, I was able to stick with the plan I had to begin with and keep ahold of the lead.” Pittman also praised the condition of the course, saying it was in prime condition for the championship.
