54 | T he Iowa Wife-Husband Championship was conducted at Sunnyside Country Club, in Waterloo, for the first time in 2019. Sunnyside is a wonderful layout that has played host to five Iowa Amateur Championships and was named the Iowa 18-Hole Course of the Year in 2006. The tournament is played over the course of three days, in which couples choose to play their two rounds on Friday & Saturday, Friday & Sunday or Saturday & Sunday. The tournament is played in a Modified Alternate-Shot format, in which both players tee off, the couple then selects which drive to take and alternates in from there. Play was contested in an Open and Super Senior Division. Unfortunately, inclement weather cancelled the final day of play, meaning all scores reverted back to the 18-hole totals. The Cedar Rapids tandem of Julie & Brian Buerman outpaced the field. They finished with a 4-under 68 total to win the Open Division. After an eagle on the par-5 third, they stepped on the gas with consecutive birdies on holes five through seven.
