The victory at the NCAA Regional helped Kinney punch his ticket to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, where he made the 54-hole cut at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Notables that finished behind Kinney at the Regional were Oklahoma State players Matthew Wolff and Victor Hovland. Hovland was the 2018 U.S. Amateur champion while Wolff has already won an event on the PGA Tour. Kinney played well all season, earning top-five finishes at the Colleton River Intercollegiate (T5), the Sunnehanna Amateur (T5) and the 70th Herman Sani (5th), and top-ten finishes at the Arizona Intercollegiate (8th) and the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate (8th). He also finished in a tie for eighth at the Big 12 Championships. Kinney, now a senior at ISU, has been a four-year standout for the Cyclones, and is the only player in Cyclone history to compete in three NCAA Championships. He hopes to make it four in 2020. He has received several accolades throughout his collegiate career, including Honorable Mention All-American, Big-12 All-Tournament Team, and First Team Academic All- Big 12.
