72 | A Amelia Mehmet-Grohn, of Ames, had a terrific spring season for the Iowa State Cyclone women’s golf team, and that led right into a great summer for the senior-to-be. Qualifying for the top women’s amateur event in the world, the U.S. Women’s Amateur, highlighted her year. Grohn’s accomplishments throughout 2019 earned her the Women’s Player of the Year award. In addition to qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur – which was played at Old Waverly Golf Club in Mississippi - she posted a runner-up finish at the Iowa Women’s Amateur (Otter Creek GC, Ankeny) and was a quarterfinalist at the IGA Women’s Match Play (Tournament Club of Iowa, Polk City). In the spring, she was a key cog for the Cyclones as they qualified for a regional berth once again. Grohn finished 17th overall at the Cle Elum Regional and also led the Cyclones at the Big 12 Championships, finishing 12th individually. She also posted a 6th place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate. Grohn is a native Australian and represented her home country in the Astor Trophy competition held in Vancouver, B.C.
