Garside, now competing in his freshman season at the University of Iowa, began the race with a win at the 4A High School State Tournament. He posted two runner-up finishes in prestigious junior events – the Iowa Junior Amateur and the AJGA D.A. Points Junior. His strong summer continued with high finishes in the top two IGA conducted championships, posting a T6 finish at the Iowa Amateur and making it to the round of 16 at the IGA Match Play. He then qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, where he was one of the top 64 players to make the match play field. Finally, he finished his year off with top twenty finishes at the Iowa Open (15th) and the Herman Sani Tournament (19th).
