| 85 IOWA GOLF ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION HISTORY OF GOLF IN IOWA BOOK “Golden Harvest. Iowa’s Rich Golf History” HISTORY OF GOLF IN IOWA One of the foundational pillars of the IGAF is to preserve and protect the history of the game. One way we are working to do that is through our partnership with Hall of Fame golf writer Rick Brown. Rick spent the entire year researching and writing a book on the history of golf in Iowa. As you can imag- ine, this would be a monumental task as the history of golf in Iowa stretches well over a century. Written by 11-time Iowa Sportswriter of the Year Rick Brown and commissioned by the Iowa Golf Association, this book is a must-read for those who love the game. Rick covers everything from our major champions to our local legends; Championship venues to sand greens; Iowa has a little bit of everything. Golf came to Iowa in the late 1800s, planting the seeds for a rich harvest of golf history. Much of that history, long forgotten, comes to life in “Golden Harvest. Iowa’s Rich Golf History.” The book was released at the end of 2019 and is available for purchase on the IGA website. Visi t iowagolf.org to order your copy today! “Golf coverage in the local newspaper may be a thing of the past, but at least my generation had the pleasure of being covered by a gentle- man who understood the game and never failed to find a story. We owe Rick a debt of gratitude for the painstaking research he invested to tell our Iowa golf story. I know you will enjoy this incredible collection of Iowa’s golf greats, their clubs, pros, superinten- dents and communities that love the game.” Excerpt from Foreword by Mike McCoy
