2020 IGA Yearbook

Thanks to our staff, volunteers, and host courses we saw some fantastic competition in 2020, including a memorable opening nine holes by our Iowa Amateur champion, final hole excitement at the Women’s Amateur, to a closing final round eagle-birdie-birdie charge at the Herman Sani. In June, in recognition of questions of social injustice raised across the country the United States Golf Association issued a statement which read in part: “While the game of golf is built on the values of fairness, integrity and respect toward all individuals, we recognize that our game’s history has not always represented the best of these ideals, and at times our own organization has fallen short. The USGA joins the call for open dialogue, understanding, unity, and the courage to envision and build a better world. We commit to being part of the solution moving forward.” The Iowa Golf Association shares the values expressed by the USGA and is committed to seeking and carrying out meaningful solutions. We will learn from our experiences in 2020 as we go forward into 2021 and beyond. As 2020 comes to a close, there is reason to believe the pandemic will begin to come under control and we will be able to focus on our long-term goals. 2021 will be the first time in many years the Iowa Golf Association will enter a golf season without Bill Dickens. He has been a tremendous asset to the IGA for nearly two decades and there is no doubt Bill leaves the IGA with a superb staff and effective organization well equipped to carry on. While it will be unusual to not have him around, we wish him the best with his retirement and hope he gets to play a bit more golf. Thank you Bill Dickens for your many years of service to the Iowa Golf Association.
