W averly's, Hogan Hansen, was crowned the 2021 Iowa Junior Amateur Champion at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, Iowa. Hansen defeated Nate Spear in a playoff on hole 18 after the two competitors posted a 215 for their three-round total. After an extremely windy first day, Spear had a two shot lead over the field. He carded a 1-over 72 and had Ethan Walker, Mason Weeks and Nathan Tillman knocking on the door. Hansen trailed Spear by six shots after the first day, but stayed determined knowing that the weather would be more favorable for the upcoming rounds. The 2020 Iowa Junior Amateur Champion, Hunter Johnson, played strong in the wind and was only four back after round one. In the second round, Hansen came racing into the first place position after firing a 3-under round of 68. In his round, Hansen recorded four birdies and an eagle (on the seventh hole). His confidence grew as he slept on the over- night lead. Spear couldn't find the same spark that he had in round one, but stayed within striking distance. Johnson continued his climb into contention after a second-round 73. Corbin Walker had the other under-par round of the day, pushing him into the final pairing. During the final round, Hansen seemed to be running away with the trophy. Spear was down four shots with seven holes remaining in his round until he caught fire. Spear managed to hole-out for eagle on the 12th hole and followed that up with three-straight birdies on 14, 15 and 16! Spear posted a 67 and was the leader in the clubhouse, while Hansen had one remaining hole.
