26 2022 CHAMPIONSHIPS T he 2022 schedule included a wonderful lineup of IGA Member Clubs that served as host sites for the crowning of our champions. The men’s and women’s IGA Match Play Championship returned to Talons Golf in Ankeny, June 28-July 1. Talons Golf is a privately-owned course routed between beautiful rock-walled streams and covered bridges. This was the third straight year Talons Golf has hosted these two champi- onships. The Iowa Amateur was conducted at Crow Valley Golf Course in Daven- port on July 18-20. This marked the third time the Iowa Amateur was held at the club, with the first time being in 1990. The last time the classic venue hosted the Iowa Amateur was in 2004 when Nate Dunn captured the title with a 218 three-round total. The Iowa Women’s Amateur was played at Cedar Rapids Country Club, July 25-27. This was the seventh time that the club hosted this historic tournament, the first time dating back to 1924. The club hosted an Iowa Women's Amateur back in 1967 when Jacqueline Fladoos earned her sec- ond-straight Women's Amateur Champion title. Now the trophy is named after her and her sister, Sharon. The Iowa Senior Women’s Amateur was contested at Lake Panorama Golf Course in Panora on August 8-9. The club has hosted the Senior Women's Amateur two times before this crowning Jean Mowry of Webster City in 2001 and Carroll Dethrow of Nevada in 2006. Ames Golf & Country Club hosted the Iowa Senior Amateur, August 22- 24. In 2003, Ames Golf & Country Club crowned its first Senior Amateur Champion when Dan Naughton carded a low 199 to win his second career title. Gene Elliott is the latest winner at Ames Golf & Country Club. In 2016 Elliott fired a 206 three-round tally to take home the victory. In addition to those championships already listed, the IGA conducted and administered USGA Qualifiers throughout the state. Many of which re- sulted in Iowans making it through to the national championship. Enjoy reading about these events and several more in the next pages of this yearbook.
