4 J IM GRINALDI APRIL 17 , 1952 - JANUARY 23 , 2022 Jim had many interests, but few were he as passionate about as golf. Jim began golf- ing in high school, but his love for the sport grew throughout his years as a single father and even more so when he found his partner in golf and life, Cathi. He was a member of the Des Moines Golf and Country Club and proudly volunteered for the Iowa Golf Association Course Rating Team. GEORGE KINLEY JUNE 4 , 1937 - FEBRUARY 23 , 2022 George Kinley, 84, was a long-time Des Moines businessman and former Major- ity Leader for the Iowa Senate. He owned and operated Kinley Golf & Sports Sales across from the Des Moines International Airport. Kinley said he believed he was the longest surviving business owner on Fleur Drive. He acquired the original property in 1954 while in his late teens. JOHN NERVIG AUGUST 3 , 1935 - APRIL 8 , 2022 John Nervig is fondly remembered for his service as co-director of the Iowa Masters with fellow Ames native and good friend George Turner. Together, they co-directed the tournament for more than 30 years until Turner’s passing in 2019. Nervig also served several years as a member of the IGA Board, including President from 1985- 87. To honor his contributions to the Iowa Masters Golf Tournament a scholarship has been created in his name. If you would like to contribute to the fund click here. DR. ED UPDEGRAFF MARCH 1 , 1922 - DECEMBER 23 , 2022 Dr. Edgar R. (Ed) Updegraff, the 1999 USGA Bob Jones Award recipient and the 1981 U.S. Senior Amateur champion, passed away on Friday, Dec. 23 in his adopted hometown of Tucson, Ariz., at the age of 100. Updegraff was born in Boone, Iowa, in 1922, and developed a love of golf by caddieing for his grandfather, Clarence Ed- gar Updegraff, at Boone Country Club. He played in six Masters tournaments and was part of three Walker Cup teams. Updegraff was inducted into the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2006. IN MEMORIAM
