106 N o tournament compares to the Northwest Iowa Amateur contested at Spencer Golf and Country Club. This is Iowa’s only 72-hole tournament played over the course of four days, including multiple cuts. The 102nd rendition came down to the wire. Norwalk’s Dennis Bull would ultimately prevail by one shot over Mason Weeks of Spirit Lake and by two over Trent Peterson of Eagan, MN. During the final round, Bull carded three birdies on the back nine which proved critical as he won the Northwest for the first time in his illustrious amateur career. In total he shot rounds of 68 (-4), 66 (-6), 72 (E), and 69 (-3). In the Senior Division, 2022 Open champion J.D. Anderson from Johnston secured the victory by three shots. Over the course of 36 holes Anderson shot an impressive 138 (-6). Runner-up belonged to Spencer native Chris Kramer and 2021 Champion Jon Brown. In fourth, one shot behind, was Bret Taylor from Booneville. The Super-Senior Division leaderboard was stacked with past champions of the event but one would rule them all – Curtis Holck (‘04 and ‘05) from Ankeny. In his 36 holes, Holck shot an outstanding 137 (-7). Runner-up Ron Peterson (‘00) shot 145 (+1) and coming all the way from Austin, TX, Jeff Opheim (‘97) finished in solo third.
