86 F or the second year in a row Team IGA walked away with the Iowa Cup Matches against the Iowa PGA Section with a final score of 25.5 to 14.5. The 57th playing of the matches was hosted at Short Hills Country Club in East Moline, Illinois. The morning of day one featured close Four-Ball matches, as the score was split dead even at 5 points a piece for the IGA and IPGA. Team IGA had a couple key matches that set the tone early. Aaron Obrien and Trent Lindenman put the hammer down on IPGA Pros Zach Steffen and Casey Harvey winning 4&3. Also sparking victory was Ron Peterson and Ben Peters winning 3&2 against Kevin Trobaugh and JR Miller. In the afternoon, Foursome matches were up, and Team IGA kept the clubs hot. Key matches in the afternoon were won by Nate McCoy and Trent Lindeman defeating IPGA players Zach Steffen and Davis Sutton 5&4. Dusty Drenth and Kelly Brown had their foot on the gas in the afternoon as well winning 4&3 against Tracy Vest and Dave Ranney. Team IGA secured a 7-3 edge in the session to lead by four-points en route to the Singles matches. Team IGA dominated in the Singles. Indian Hills Community College freshman Roman Roth had the largest margin of victory defeating Adam Miller 6&4. Roth carded four birdies in the match. In addition to Roth’s impressive playing, IGA had an additional three matches that were won 5&3. Matt Schlueter defeated Matt Erger, Bill Matzdorff beat Andrew Kinney and Dusty Drenth got revenge on Zach Steffen, so to speak. Steffen had beat Drenth in a tightly contested college match years ago and it was a loss that’s been eating at Drenth ever since, he commented after the match. “Win or lose I always enjoy getting together with all these guys,” Team IGA Playing Captain Nate McCoy said. “There’s so much history with this event and it’s always a good competition." Jim Campbell of Albia served as Honorary Captain.
