24 USGA BOATWRIGHT INTERNSHIP Rylee Heryford Rylee Heryford joined the IGA this summer as the Cham- pionship intern and was a welcomed addition to the team. A member of the Drake University Women’s Golf team, Heryford had a wealth of championship golf experience that she brought to the table. Paired with previous work experience at private clubs, she thrived quickly. Along with the traditional projects of compiling the sea- son long Junior Player of the Year standings, she was also tasked with being the Official in Charge (OIC) at the Iowa Senior Women’s Amateur. As the OIC, Heryford worked with the host facility (Rice Lake G&CC) leading up to the event including estab- lishing the tee time waves to best fit the host facilities schedule, coordinating practice round information, and running the Shootout following the first round of the championship. Her role also included being the lead com- municator to all championship participants with champi- onship information, format, scheduling, and registrations. A quick learner, Heryford executed a successful 36-hole championship with minimal staff involvement. This was her first time in the OIC role and showed she has all the necessary skills for a strong career in golf administration. Her poise under pressure and ability to problem solve will continue to serve her well when she graduates next Spring. “My time interning with the IGA was such a cool and unique experience. I learned so much about how events come together behind the scenes and got to meet so many great people in the golf community, as well as work with the best staff around!”
