2025 Yearbook
6 Leo Hejda 1938 - 2025 Leo retired as an inspector for the City of Des Moines. An avid golf enthusiast, Leo devoted countless hours to the sport he loved, mentoring young golfers and sharing his passion with anyone willing to learn. A USGA Committee member for many years, Leo was most known around Iowa for his work administering the U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifiers. He devoted countless hours to preparing for and administering this event each year, always with the aim of creating a great experience for the players. Ed Dolan 1950 - 2025 Ed's lifelong connection to golf began in 1962, when he crossed the railroad tracks from his family’s home on North Barclay Street to caddy at Sunnyside Country Club. In 1968, he became the greenskeeper and in 1976 he proudly purchased the course from George “Porky” Lorenz. Red Carpet Golf became not only his career, but his passion. Ed loved being out on the course; either playing, checking in on golfers, or making sure things were running just right. IN MEMORIAM Dean Fagerl ind 1937 - 2025 Dean transformed his passion for golf into a career as the superintendent of South Hills, Gates, and Byrnes Park golf courses, eventually serving as the Director of Golf for all three. He was recognized as a past Superintendent of the Year by the Iowa Su- perintendent Association and was an active member of the Elks Club. Dean dedicat- ed himself to promoting golf among youth in Waterloo, ensuring that children had access to equipment, particularly those who couldn't afford it. In our golf community, it’s important to take a moment to remember all the amazing people who have played a part in shaping the experience we enjoy today. Whether it’s the players hitting the links, the volunteers lending a hand during events, or the dedicated groundskeepers keeping our courses in top shape, each one of them adds something special to the game we love. Their enthusi- asm and commitment helped keep the spirit of golf alive and thriving here in Iowa.
