Iowa PGA pulls away in singles,
Caputures 49th Iowa Cup
It’s hard to say that anyone necessarily had “fun” during
the 49th Iowa Cup Matches, but one would presume that
the Iowa PGA team had slightly more fun than the IGA
team. The PGA pulled away from the IGA during final
day singles matches to claim a 17

to 12

win during
brutally cold and windy conditions at Blue Top Ridge at
Riverside.
A thunderstorm rolled through the area early, which
forced a delay at the start of the matches. Then the Four-
Ball session was played in mid 40 degree weather, with
nearly constant rain and 15 mph winds, gusting to 25.
Due to the poor conditions, the tournament committee
determined to cancel the afternoon Foursomes matches
(alternate shot). The play concluded with singles matches
on day two.

lead after day one and finished
with a 12 to 8 advantage in the singles matches.
The Honorary Captains for the matches were Mike Hall
of St. Andrews Golf Club in Cedar Rapids for the Iowa
PGA and John Peters of Muscatine for the IGA. Peters
has been one of the best senior amateur players in Iowa
for more than two decades. He was the 2004 IGA Senior
Player of the Year
and won the regular
IGA Match Play at
age 57 in 2005. Both
he and Hall have
participated in many
Iowa Cup Matches
over the years.
