IOWA MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Elmwood Country Club, Marshalltown

Brown wins 2016 Iowa Mid-Amateur in

playoff, Peterson claims Senior Division

It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t always pretty, but in the end Jon

Brown was left standing at the end of the 31st Iowa Mid-

Amateur Championship held at Elmwood Country Club in

Marshalltown.

With his victory, Brown became the first to win the

newly named Michael McCoy Mid-Amateur Trophy. The

announcement of the naming of the trophy was made

following the playoff. McCoy, not knowing about the naming

until the announcement was made, commented that golf in

Iowa has been very good to him and was honored by the news.

Brown, of Clive, survived a 3-way playoff with Justin Schulte

(Urbandale) and hometown hero Sam Zoske (Marshalltown). All

three players finished with a two-day total of 143 (+3).

“I knew it was going to be one of those days, where the weather

is not so good and you just try and hang in there,” Brown said.

“I couldn’t really tell what everyone else was doing. We were all

having trouble. We had a logjam there (towards the end). It was

anyone’s game.”

Brown admitted his pung for most of the second round was

awful.
