Buerman wins 5th IGA Women’s Match Play Title over Heinz

It took 17-holes to reach a conclusion in the championship match of the

2016 IGA Women’s Match Play Championship. With a par on the par-3 17th-

hole, Julie Buerman was victorious over Jenny Heinz by a score of 3&1.

Buerman was dormie going to the 16th hole, 3-up with three holes to

play. Heinz would capitalize on a Buerman bogey, rolling in her par putt

to send the gallery fleeing to the 17th-hole. Heinz was unable to best

th

to extend the match.

After 11-holes of action, Buerman had stretched her lead to 3-up. Heinz,

the 2015 IGA Player of the Year, did her best to close in on Buerman’s

lead, but was never able to string together consecutive winning holes to

catch her.

“I played here a long time ago when I worked here,” Buerman said. “In

match play I tried to take it one hole at a time. I was trying to just make

pars. Making birdies out here is a bonus. Today, on the front nine, I putted

well, so that was nice.”

To reach the finals, Buerman defeated stroke play medalist, Katie Hansen

3&1. Heinz knocked off the No. 2 seed Susan Kirschenman with a 2&1

victory to solidify her spot in the championship match.
