Team Iowa wins by 35 strokes at Junior Girls’
4-State Championship
Through the wind and rain Team Iowa emerged as Junior Girls’ 4-State
champions.
Team Iowa proved they weren’t complacent with their 17-stroke lead after the first round. They continued the
push by posting a second round total of 314, a two stroke improvement from day one, and stretching the lead
to 35 strokes over Nebraska and Kansas. Although Nebraska made a move by improving their team total by 11
strokes, it wasn’t enough to catch the determined Iowa squad.
Brooke Boardman of Waukee led Iowa with a 75-77—152 (+8) total and was the overall medalist by five strokes
over Nebraska’s Hanna Hunke. Not far behind was Allison Olberding of West Des Moines with a two round
total of 75-77--158 (+14). Veteran ‘4-Stater’ Karli Kerrigan of Ankeny was third for Team Iowa with her two-
round total of 79-81—160 (+16). Sierra Hargen of Cedar Rapids contributed by posting an 84-78—162 (+18)
and Paige Seiser of Waukee finished with an 82-88-170 (+26).
“It was especially fun because our team knew each other from high school and summer tournaments. It was
nice to be teammates for once instead of competitors, “ said Kerrigan.
Four of the five Iowa team members will continue on to play college golf in the fall. Brooke Boardma will enter
into her junior year at Waukee High School during the 2016-2017 school year.
