Kerrigan wins Iowa Girls’ Junior Amateur
The weather did its best to try and washout the 2016 Iowa Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship at
Ellis Golf Course. After a weather delay in the first round, the top junior female talent in Iowa took
to the course, where four individual champions were crowned.
Karli Kerrigan, of Ankeny, avenged her runner-up finish in 2015 with a victory in 2016 in the 16
to 18 Age Division. She fired rounds of 71-79 to win by three strokes over Brooke Boardman of
Waukee.
Kerrigan got off to a rough start in her final round. Starting on 10, she carded five bogeys and a
double bogey during an opening 43. But she would settle down during the final stretch, shoot-
ing even par on her final nine holes, including a birdie at the closing hole. In addition to
the win, Kerrigan’s tournament was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth
hole during her first round.
In the 14-15 Age Division, Anna Jensen of Dubuque cruised to a first place
finish with a two-day total of 180 (90-90.) Hannah Butler finished sec-
ond with a 192 (96-96.)
The 12 to 13 and 11 and under divisions play on the opening day only with the 11 and under divi-
sion playing just nine holes. Paige Hoffman of West Des Moines fired an 85 to take first place in
the 12-13 Division while Jenna Kramer of Cedar Rapids won the 11 and under with a 48.
