Livermore’s Alexa Capesius, who finished runner-

up (223) to Sindlinger, tried to stay within striking

distance after an eagle on the 11th hole. Capesius

would play her last seven holes one-over par to finish

six back of the pace. Capesius will be a senior at the

University of Missouri-St. Louis and was able to take

away a lot of positives from the week.

“For me this week, keeping the driver in the fairway

(was important),” Capesius said. “You did not want to

be in the rough. It’s so thick, it made hing greens

very difficult.”

Capesius, along with many of the players, commented

on the tough, yet fair, challenge they found on the

greens.

“The greens are very tough,” Capseius said. “You have

to stay on the right side of the hole. I tried to make sure I

was always two pung them. I tried to just do what I had

done the past two days and if putts drop, great.”

Morgan Kukla, a teammate of Sindlinger at Iowa,

finished in third place (227). Three early bogies in the

final round ultimately did the Hawkeye golfer in and left

her too far back to chase after her teammate. She closed

with a 76 (+4).

Stuart’s Janece Schwartzkopf held off several players to

win the Open Division with a score of 243 (+27). Jesup’s

Michelle Klein posted a final round 78 (+6), but would

finish three shots off the lead. Rockwell City’s Kathy

Fortune would tie Klein to share runner-up at 246 (+30).

Klein’s 78 in the final round was the best of the Open

Division, although Swartzkopf’s 79 in round one wasn’t

far behind.

In another close battle, Cedar Rapids’ Bonnie Jones held

on for a one-shot victory in the 2nd Flight of the Open

Division.

Open Division champion, Janece Schwartzkopf, accepts

her trophy from IGA’s Director of Membership Services &

Women’s Golf, Katelynn Hogenson.
