The weather did its best to try and washout the 2016 Iowa Junior Amateur Champions

IOWA JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Ellis Park GC, Cedar Rapids

29

Lucas Scherf of

Grinnell.

Heavy rains fell on the morning of day one of the Iowa Junior Amateur

Championship at Ellis Golf Course in Cedar Rapids, but once the bad weather

passed, some very good golf was displayed.

Lucas Sherf, of Grinnell, closed with a final nine of 34 to chase down the title by one

stroke over Tate Arends of Orange City. Sherf’s final round included birdies on four

of the last seven holes, to put him at 1-under 143 (72-71) while Arends finished at

even par 144 (71-73).

Clayton Larsen of Manchester was the 18-hole leader after an impressive five-under,

67, but he was unable to sustain the momentum. He carded a 41 for his final nine

holes and finished tied for third at 145 (67-78). Tying Larsen for third was Caleb Peters

of Johnston (74-71) and Chris Winkel of Ankeny (70-75).

Bennett Peterson of Waukee was the 14 to 15 Age Division champion after shooting 76-

82–158. He defeated Ian Johnston (81-78—159) of Swisher and Joe Dean (75-84—159)

of Cedar Falls by a single stroke.

The youngest age divisions consisted of a single round. The 12 to 13 kids played 18

holes while the 11 and under played just nine. Dillon Burr of Marion (74) bested

second-place finishers Jack Dumas of LeClaire (80) and Brock Snyder of Ames (80)

in the 12 to 13 division. Mason Kimm of Swisher was the champion in the 11 and

under division with a 51.
