SOUTHEAST IOWA AMATEUR

The Preserve on Rathbun Lake, Moravia

May 21-22, 2016

CARROLL AMATEUR

Carroll Country Club

June 11-12, 2016

Anderson wins Southeast Iowa Amateur,

Cook takes Seniors

After finishing in second last year, J.D. Anderson came out on top

this year at the Southeast Iowa Amateur. But it wasn’t easy - due

to both close competition and severe conditions at The Preserve

on Rathbun Lake. Anderson posted a final round 39 to nip Alex

Moorman by just two storkes.

Final round play was extremely difficult and shortended to nine

holes due to weather. Anderson, of Johnston, posted a 2-under

total of 178 while Alex Moorman finished close behind with an

even par, three day score of 180.

Terry Cook held off Andy Burton and Gene Capps to win the

Senior Division title. Cook posted two even-par rounds of 72 to

get the job done. Finishing in a tie for fourth were Joe Bates and

Ron Peterson, both carding two-day totals of 150.

Martens, Peterson take titles at the Carroll

Amateur

Ross Martens came away victorious

at the 2016 Carroll Amateur. Martens

racked up 16 birdies and three eagles

for the tournament to shoot eleven-

under, 202 (65-71-66). The Portsmouth,

Iowa resident fired three rounds of

even-par or better golf to take home the

title. A final round, five-under, 66 lifted

Martens to victory.

Martens’ win was threatened by

Matthew Walker in the final round of

18-holes. Walker pieced together a tournament-best eight-under,

63 in his final 18-holes to finish one shot behind Martens at ten-

under, 203 (71-69-63.) The Ottumwa Amateur Champion began the

back-nine with an ace on the par-three 10th hole at Carroll Country

Club. He would go on to birdie four out of his final five holes,

but a bogey on the 17th proved to be the difference in the final

standings.

In the Senior Division, it was Ron

Peterson who edged runner-up

finishers Bill Manske and Joe Bates by

one stroke to earn the title. Peterson

tallied consecutive rounds of 72 to

finish at two-over, 144.
