Jensen takes Iowa Masters title
Garrett Jensen was the only player in the field at the Iowa
Masters to record two sub-70 scores at Veeker Memorial Golf
Course. The Gilbert resident fired a three-round total of 207 (69-
70-68) to win the Iowa Masters by four strokes.
Jensen had to fend off 2015 Champion, Gene Elliott, while
playing side-by-side with him in the final round. Elliott and Jensen
shared the 36-hole lead, along with Griffen Matthias. Elliott,
who currently leads the Player of the Year standings, fired a final
round score of even-par, 72 to finish with a 211 (72-67-72.)
Patrick Hall was the only other player in the field besides Jensen
to card a score that was under-par in all three rounds. Hall
finished tied for runner-up honors with 70-70-71.
Tom Schill made a birdie on the 18th-hole to win the senior
division. The Gowrie resident finished the tournament at one-
under with rounds of 74-70-71 (215). Ron Peterson took home
runner-up honors, finishing one stroke behind Schill at 216 (72-
73-71.)

FORT DODGE AMATEUR
Fort Dodge Country Club
July 1-3, 2016
Smith, Bates come out on top at Fort
Dodge Amateur
Grant Smith played his final 13 holes of
the Fort Dodge Amateur at six-under
to fire a closing 18-hole score of 66.
The Johnston, Iowa native finished the
tournament at seven-under, 206 (70-
70-66) to edge runner-up, Eddie Doyle,
by one stroke (71-68-68.)
Smith’s tremendous performance
down the stretch was necessary as
Doyle matched him until the end. The
hometown product – Doyle - played his final 36-holes without
marking a bogey on his scorecard.
Doyle knocked in an eagle on the par-5, 15th-hole to move into a
tie for first with just three holes remaining in the final round. Smith
rolled in a birdie on the par-4, 16th to reclaim the lead at seven-
under, which would prove to be the difference.
On the senior side of the championship, it
was Joe Bates whose name remained on top
all three rounds. The wire-to-wire winner
recorded 222 (71-72-79,) finishing three
strokes clear of the field.
Dave Gaer and Bates each would close out
the tournament with a 79, opening the door
for Terry Cook (74-75-76) to make a final-
round run and ultimately tie for second.
