Girls’ Champion Brooke Boardman

fromWaukee.

F

or the second straight year, the champion of the Iowa Girls’ Junior Amateur was the runner-up

the previous year. Karli Kerrigan moved from runner-up to champion in 2016. This time, Brooke

Boardman of Waukee accomplished the feat as she won in blowout fashion at Coldwater Golf Links in

Ames.

Boardman, 16, followed an opening 82 with a final round 78 to win by 22 strokes. Boardman’s final

round featured three birdies through her first 14 holes, before finishing with two bogeys and a double.

But with a lead like she had, you can understand how concentration might slip a little coming home.

Casey Noble, 17, of Morning Sun, finished runner-up.

Noble shot two rounds of 91.

Ashley DeLong was impressive in her victory in the 14

to 15 age division. The 15-year old from Clear Lake

shot a pair of 89s over the difficult layout. She was very

consistent both days, mixing mostly pars and bogeys

throughout her rounds.

Maura Peters and Rebecca DeLong battled for the title in

the 12 to 13 age division. Peters, 12, of Bettendorf, would

ultimately come out on top. She shot a 104 during her

18-holes while DeLong, 12, of Clear Lake, put together a

107.

Meghan DeLong, 11, of Clear Lake, fired a solid 49 over

the front 9 holes at Coldwater to win the 11 and under

division. Her play was highlighted by pars at the 1st and

5th holes.
