For the second year in a row and third overall, Gene

Elliott earned his way to IGA Senior Player of the

Year, but it wasn’t decided until the final hour. Elliott’s

performance (Round of 32) at the U.S. Mid-Amateur

gave him enough ‘bonus’ points to overtake Joe

Palmer for the award.

On top of winning Senior Player of the Year, Gene

finished runner-up in the men’s standings as well.

He notched wins at the Iowa Masters and 22nd IGA

Four-Ball (with partner Mike McCoy). Elliott also

finished T5th at the Stocker Cup and T9th at the

George L. Coleman Invitational in 2017.

In the Senior Division Gene won the IGA Senior

Match Play, the Iowa Senior Amateur and made it to

the round of 32 of the U.S. Senior Amateur. While

not counting toward his point total for IGA Senior

Player of the Year, it should be noted that Elliott also

won the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship. the

Trans-Miss Senior and was T2nd at The (British)

Seniors Amateur Championship.

Julie Buerman of Cedar Rapids had a terrific golf

season. She posted numerous top finishes which lead

to her claiming her first IGA Women’s Player of the

Year award.

Buerman, 42 was victorious at the Forever 39 Match

Play by defeating Kelly Nelson of Waterloo, 2 & 1.

She continued her play at the IGA Women’s Match

Play at the Harvester making it to the semifinals. She

defeated Kelly Grimes and Elise Warne before being

defeated herself by the eventual runner-up.

Buerman also had a good showing with teammate

and sister Janelle Carter placing 3rd at the IGA

Women’s Four-Ball and T13th at the Iowa Women’s

Amateur which was her only finish outside the top 5

this summer.

Lastly, Julie capped it off by winning the Gross

Individual portion of the IGA Women’s Club

Team Championship at Elmwood Country Club in

Marshalltown.
