owa State graduate, Nick Voke slammed the door on the field during the final round of the

Herman Sani Tournament. The New Zealander, who has since turned pro, put together a blistering

5-under-par (66) score in the final round at Echo Valley Country Club to win by three over his

former teammate, and fellow Kiwi, Denzel Ieremia.

Voke entered the final round in third, four shots behind professional Matt Jennings of Prairie City

and three behind Ieremia. The trophy looked out of reach after a bogey at the 2nd, but that would

soon change.

He birdied holes four and seven, then rolled in an eagle on the par-5 9th to turn in 33. A bogey

at 11 slowed his momentum a bit, but he finished like a true champion, making birdies on 15,

17 and 18 to secure the win. Voke posted a pair of 69s to open the championship. Those

rounds, combined with his final round 66, left him at 9-under for the 54-hole stroke play

event.

Ieremia, who is now a senior at Iowa State, had a bit of a roller-

coaster ride to his final round. He opened with a double bogey at

one, made birdie at four, double bogey at five and then birdie at six.

That left him at two-over for the day, where he would remain until

a birdie at the last gave him a final round 72. All in all, he shot

rounds of 66-69-72 to finish on 6-under par and three back.

Jennings could never get positive momentum going

during his final round. He played steady golf on the

opening 9 holes, posting an even-par 36, but ultimately

was done-in by a triple-bogey (8) on the 15th. When

all was said and done, he would only post one birdie

(9) during his final round, finishing with 66-68-76

(3-under) to finish six back of Voke. The silver lining

for Jennings was, because Voke and Ieremia were both

amateurs, he still took home the first place check as

the low professional.

Mitch Tucker, a pro from Oskaloosa, put together the

second-best final round (behind Voke’s 66) posting a 4-under

67 to finish in solo fourth. He posted a 2-under par total of

211.

Joe Palmer of West Des Moines claimed the Senior Division of the Herman Sani Tournament at

Echo Valley Country Club, and did so in dramatic fashion.

Palmer made a birdie on the final hole of the final round to hold off

Curtis Holck of Ankeny and Rob Dickerman of Marion by one shot.

Dickerman also birdied the 18th hole in the final round.

Palmer, who won the senior title the first time the event was played at

Echo Valley CC in 2013, came into the final round leading Holck by

one. Dickerman and Terry Cook of West Des Moines trailed by three.

Palmer seemingly took complete control at the outset of the last day

with a front nine 3-under 33. But a few stumbles during the back nine combined with some birdies

by Holck and Dickerman made things tight down the stretch. Ultimately, Palmer and Holck

came to the final hole tied, with Dickerman a shot back. The champion’s birdie proved to be the

difference.

Palmer finished at 3-under-par 210 (72-68-70) with Holck (71-70-70) and Dickerman (75-67-69)

finishing at 2-under-par 211. Cook was alone in fourth at 1-over par 214 (73-69-72), while Bret

Taylor of Booneville rounded out the top five with a 2-over-par 215 (77-70-68).
