U.S. Senior Open Qualifier loaded with talent
On the heels of this year’s Principal Charity Classic, the U.S. Senior Open Qualifier at Briarwood Club, Ankeny, will include a winner of the Masters and Open Championship.
Larry Mize (pictured above), who won the 1987 Masters, and Todd Hamilton, 2004 Open Championship winner, will headline the field on June 11, in Ankeny. Others in the field you may recognize include Willie Wood, Jay Don Blake, Tom Byrum, Tim Petrovic, Dan Forsman, Mike Goodes, John Jacobs and John Huston. A total of 39 will participate in the qualifier, including several local amateurs and professionals who have their sights set on the U.S. Senior Open to be held The Broadmoor Golf Club, Colorado Springs, CO.
Local Iowa amateurs that look to make an impact on Monday include Joe Palmer (currently 1st in the IGA Senior Player of the Year standings), Terry Cook (2nd), Jon Brown (4th) and Tom Norton (5th).
