SENIOR MEN'S PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINT SYSTEM

RULES & REGULATIONS

IGA Senior Player of the Year Point System

  • Point Total is determined by:
    • Total points in all Senior IGA, USGA conducted championships and qualifiers and Additional Sanctioned Point Events.
  • Points for 2019 will accumulate through the final IGA, USGA or Additional Sanctioned Point event, whichever comes later.
  • Player must be an Iowa resident and be a member of the IGA (enrolled on GHIN Handicap Roster at an IGA Member Club) to be eligible.
  • In tournaments with professional fields (Herman Sani, Iowa Open, etc) points will be awarded according to finish against the amateur portion of the field.
  • Points will not be awarded to amateur players who are not Iowa residents and IGA members. Positions will not be elevated in order to award those points. For example: 3rd place points will be awarded to the 3rd place finisher even if the 1st and 2nd place finishers are not IGA members.
  • USGA points are awarded based on final finish. For example, a player who is a quarter-finalist in the US Senior Amateur will receive a total of 600 points, not 250+300+400+500+600.
  • If a player is an alternate but subsequently is informed of the USGA that they are in the championship field, their points will be elevated to qualifier level, whether they actually play in the championship or not.
  • Qualifying points will not be awarded to exempt players for USGA or any other championship. However, players can earn points for their appropriate finish once at the championship.
    • For example, a player is exempt from qualifying for the U.S. Senior Amateur
      • If he does not make match play he will receive 0 points
      • If he makes match play he will receive 300 points
    • It is the policy of the Iowa Golf Association that at least 12 individuals must enter a tournament in a Senior division to constitute awarding points for Senior player of the year race that is applicable to such division. If 11 or less enter in the division, no points will be available.
      • For example: When 11 people or less sign up to play in the Senior Division of the Carroll Amateur, no points will be awarded for the Senior Player of the Year race.
      • THE IOWA OPEN SENIOR DIVISION is awarded as bonus points much in the same way that USGA events are bonus points; therefore, it is not subject to the 12-person minimum entry requirement. See Iowa Open Points Table.
    • Co-Player of the Year honors would be awarded if two or more are tied in the points race.
    • The IGA Four-Ball Championship is a FULL Point Event. Points are awarded to each player based on team finish in the Senior Division. For example, on the 1st place team, Player A receives 250 points and Player B receives 250 points.
