JUNIOR GIRLS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINT SYSTEM
RULES & REGULATIONS
IGA Junior Girls’ Player of the Year Point System
Point Total is determined by:
- Total points earned in the events outlined within
The system is designed to give the golfer who competes well at the national and state levels the best chance at taking home the honor. In 2024, points will accumulate through September 8. Any events ending after September 8th will be applied to the 2025 Junior POTY race.
The player must be an Iowa resident and must compete in at least one IGA conducted Championship to be eligible in final standings for Junior Girls’ Player of the Year.
Positions will not be elevated in events that feature juniors from other areas outside of Iowa. For example: 3rd place points will be awarded the 3rd place finisher even if the 1st and 2nd place finishers are not Iowa juniors.
Iowa Women’s Match Play: Players must win a match or earn a first round bye through stroke play qualifying to earn points. For example, if there are only 30 players participating those earning the #1 and #2 seed and those winning a first round match will earn Round of 16 points. Those losing their first round match will not earn any points.
USGA points are awarded based on final finish. For example: A player who is a quarter-finalist in the U.S. Women’s Amateur will receive 1600 points, not 200 + 400 + 800 + 1600.
If a player is an alternate but subsequently is informed of the USGA that they are in the championship field, their points will be elevated to qualifier level, whether they actually play in the championship or not.
Qualifying points will be awarded to exempt players for USGA or any other championship so long as they tee it up. However, players can earn additional points for their appropriate finish at the championship.
Tiebreaker (in order):
- Points earned in the Iowa Junior Girls’ Championship
- Points earned in the Iowa Women’s Amateur Championship
- Highest point total earned in a remaining event
- 2nd highest point total earned in a remaining event
- 3rd highest point total earned in a remaining event
When determining which tier will be used for allocating points for Iowa PGA Junior Tour Events, the IGA will count all players who started the tournament whether or not they finished the event or not. For example: 11 players are entered in the event but 2 players decide to withdraw prior to teeing off. The total number of players that started the event is now 9. The event would then fall into Tier A for points allocation.
It is very important for junior golfers who finish well in the outlined events to communicate those finishes to the IGA office. It is very hard for us to keep track of every tournament that is available.
If the Carroll Women’s Amateur gets 15 or more players, full points will be awarded. If the event gets 5-14 players, points will be reduced by 50%. If less than 5 players participate, no points will be awarded.
The IGA Women’s Rules & Competitions Subcommittee reserves the right to award points for outstanding achievements outside the IGA Junior Girls’ Player of the Year Points System.
