WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINT SYSTEM

RULES & REGULATIONS

IGA Women’s Player of the Year Point System

Point Total is determined by:

  • Total points in IGA and USGA conducted championships and qualifiers, plus….
  • Any points earned in Collegiate Championships (Conference, Regional & National Championship). Maximum points allowed in those championships is capped at 1400 points.
    • If a player earns points in any collegiate championship they must play at least 1 IGA Championship for those points to count toward IGA Women’s Player of the Year.

Points for 2023 will accumulate through September 14th. Points earned after September 14th will be added to the 2024 Player of the Year race. Typically, this date is set to include a late USGA Championship.  In such a case, if weather forces that USGA event to finish later than the scheduled date, it will still be included in the final rankings. Player must be an Iowa resident and be a member of the IGA (enrolled on GHIN Handicap Roster at an IGA Member Club) to be eligible.

Points will not be awarded to amateur players who are not Iowa residents and IGA members.  Positions will not be elevated in order to award those points.  For example: 3rd place points will be awarded the 3rd place finisher even if the 1st and 2nd place finishers are not IGA members.

Iowa Women’s Match Play: Players must win a match or earn a first round bye through stroke play qualifying to earn points.  For example, if there are only 30 players participating those earning the #1 and #2 seed and those winning a first round match will earn Round of 16 points.  Those losing their first round match will not earn any points.

Bonus points are awarded based on final finish.  For example, a player who is a quarter-finalist in the US Women’s Amateur will receive a total of 800 points, not 225+300+400+600+800.

If a player is an alternate but subsequently is informed of the USGA that they are in the championship field, their points will be elevated to qualifier level, whether they actually play in the championship or not.

Qualifying points will not be awarded to exempt players for USGA or any other championship. However, players can earn points for their appropriate finish once at the championship.
For example, a player is exempt from qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur

    • If she does not make match play she will receive 0 points
    • If she makes match play she will receive 225 points

Tiebreaker (in order):

  • Points earned in the Iowa Women’s Amateur Championship
  • Points earned in the Iowa Women’s Match Play Championship
  • Highest point total earned in a Remaining Point Event
  • 2nd highest point total earned in a Remaining Point Event
  • 3rd highest point total earned in a Remaining Point Event

The Iowa Women’s Four-Ball Championship is a FULL Point Event!  Points are awarded to each player based on team finish. For example, on the 1st place team, Player A receives 200 points and Player B receives 200 points.

For determining the field sizes for IGA Women’s Mid-Am Series Events, we will use the number of players registered for the event, not the number of players that ultimately begin play.  This is what will be used for determining the “Tier” a Series Event falls under.

It is the policy of the Iowa Golf Association that at least 5 individuals must enter a Women’s Mid-Am Series Event to constitute awarding points for player of the year races that are applicable to such division. If 5 or less enter in the division, no points will be available.

The IGA Board (Women’s R&C Subcommittee) reserves the right to award points for outstanding achievements outside the points system.
