The first Women’s Amateur was played in 1922 and began as a match play competition from 1925 – 1956. In 1957 began medal play competition. Participants must maintain a residence in the state of Iowa or be a student at an Iowa college or university. Players must have an individual memberships or be a member of a member club with the IWGA. The field will be limited to the first 120 players. In case of a full field, the criteria for choosing players will be: 1st Criteria – have played 3 out of the last 5 tournaments will be given preference; 2nd Criteria – have played 2 out of the last 4 tournaments will be given preference; 3rd Criteria – have played in the previous years’ tournaments; 4th Criteria – have lowest handicap and earliest date of entry. The Championship proper consists of 54 holes of stroke play.
